RE: The tariff classification of an LED illuminated sign from Mexico

Dear Mr. Talledos Aguilar:

In your letter dated June 16, 2014, you requested a tariff classification ruling.

The merchandise under consideration is the LED “7 eleven” logo sign. The sign is comprised of a logo face, a left and a right stripe face, an end panel, roof rails, eaves and an assembly tool kit. The sign’s components are imported from various countries and assembled in Mexico. The panels have their own source of light that consist of two small power supply and two stripes of LED. The end panel is a plastic cover for both ends of the sign. The back board, LED reflector, rail roof, and eaves are made of aluminum. The curved side and front panels are made of plastic material. The stripes of LEDs are 1200 lumens.

The applicable subheading for the LED illuminated sign will be 9405.60.6000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Illuminated signs, illuminated nameplates and the like: Other.” The general rate of duty will be 5.3 percent ad valorem.

Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/. This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).

A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Hope Abada at [email protected].
